Shankar Iyer, Senior Vice President and General Manager of End-User Computing at VMware, shares three insightful tips for the organizations that are looking to embrace a digital culture.

1. Employees experience comes first when you want to deliver the tools and technology to them

This is completely an IT preference what employers seek. It begins with an assessment of the flexibility for employees in terms of device preference and location. The VMware report gives an understanding about employee preference as experience it states that 95 percent of IT providers say that giving employees all the digital solutions has improved their overall performance, while 42 percent of HR and other employees believe that they don’t have the required digital tools necessary for their jobs. It also indicates the rising wide perception and communication gap between the IT and the rest of the organizations. The report also recently suggested that 84 percent of respondents are putting the lack of understanding from the employee’s side as one of the major challenges that will improve the digitalization and employee experience.

2. Improving employee experience as a team sport

To make the employee experience positive in the environment can only be achieved with team effort. It needs attention from all the required channels, including the employees involved and all the teams that even work remotely. Clear communication between IT and HR can enable a comfortable transition to digital-first culture. When it comes to bringing the IT and HR together through the human-centered design thinking approach can accelerate the shift that is required to adopt the digital workplace strategy. While IT teams will deploy the necessary devices required for digital first, but it would be the responsibility of HR to implement the culture of digital transformation to ensure that employees are comfortable in embracing the culture and make it easy for them to perform.

The report also highlighted that the challenges in implementing a digital-first culture are the lack of support from several of senior leadership roles, funding concerns or data security is a major challenge when it comes to making the digital first for the organization.  HR plays a critical role when it comes to making the digital jump, but they form an important part as the leaders and IT teams that need to implement the technology.
